  • Are home births safe?

Home births with trained professionals can be safe and amazing!  It is very important that expecting parents check the credentials and experience of your provider. Dr. Victoria has had an active presence in thousands of deliveries, and over 800 difficult deliveries!

Remember, this is your pregnancy, and your birth story should be the way you see it. Dr. Victoria will walk you through the steps to feel capable of having a home birth and doing it safely.  Even if complications may occur, it is good to have a birth plan in mind to be prepared as best as you can, even if transport becomes necessary.

  • What is needed for home birth?

Here is a list of the Top items you need for your home birth:

  • How much does a home birth cost?

Costs can vary based on the services required along the way. Right now Medicaid does not cover home births while others do. There are also grants available through various philanthropic organizations. Let's discuss your specific needs.

  • Is home birth a good idea?

In the current state of medical practice, women are forced into hospital protocols and birth expectations.  Cesareans have become the route of birth for almost 1 in every 3 women.  Birthing in a hospital requires the mother to have an I.V., to go without food during the whole labor and delivery process in an uncomfortable bed, and then be interrupted every few hours by hospital staff.

Home birth is a good idea because you are personally cared for and have peace of mind knowing that you are Dr. Victoria's priority.  Feel comforted and respected knowing you have continuity and consistency in care.  Home birth is a good choice for most, and any questions or concerns (like high-risk pregnancy) will be addressed in the initial consultation with Dr. Victoria. Rest assured that complications such as twins, breech babies, and past due date situations which normally would require birth outside of the home, are Dr. Victoria's specialty!

  • Does insurance cover home birth?

Insurance is still figuring out the technicalities of covering a home birth.  Some insurers have a home birth option and some do not. A biller can be provided to assist with your specific needs.

  • Is water birth less painful?

Water as an element of tranquility gives mother and baby a place to encourage calmness and peace.  However, the strength of the contractions and the mother's ability to birth unmedicated depends on the perception of pain and personal preparation.
